Shacks is Northern Nicaragua's most challenging wave—a very fast, well-shaped left that breaks over sharp reef and can get extremely hollow when conditions align. The wave doesn't work well at low tide, where it sections out and gets dangerously shallow, but mid-to-high tide transforms it into a world-class barrel. This is the most difficult wave in the Miramar area when it's pumping, but also the most rewarding—surfers who can handle the speed and power will find some of the best tubes in Central America. Not for the faint of heart.

The Shacks profile favors mid to high tide, ideally between 0.8m and 2m on the local tide chart. Compare this preference with the forecast tide and local conditions before choosing a session. The profile flags a low-tide hazard below 0.5m.
The Shacks profile uses wind from E (80°) as its preferred direction, with an offshore range of 40° to 120°. Wind speed matters too: light winds outside that range can still produce surfable conditions, while strong offshore winds can make takeoffs difficult.
The Shacks scoring profile favors swell from SW (190° to 255°), a swell-height range of 1m to 3m, and a reference period of 16s. These are model inputs, not guaranteed breaking-wave heights or a promise that the surf will suit every ability.
The main season at Shacks is Apr-Oct. A secondary window runs Mar, Nov. Best mid-to-high tide. Sections out at low. SW swell season.
The spot profile lists MGA as a nearby airport. The estimated road transfer is 100 minutes. In front of Puerto Sandino Surf Resort.
