Consistent left over reef and sand between Peaks and Mukie 2, with a short, sucky barrel section that is best at low tide, when the point is also more sheltered from westerlies. Nationally significant as part of the Supertubes-Mukie group. It is listed as a surf break of national significance in Schedule 1 of the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement. It works best on a SW swell with S winds around low tide. Watch for: shallow reef on the barrel section at low tide.

The Mukie 1 profile favors low tide. Compare this preference with the forecast tide and local conditions before choosing a session.
The Mukie 1 profile uses wind from S (180°) as its preferred direction, with an offshore range of 130° to 230°. Wind speed matters too: light winds outside that range can still produce surfable conditions, while strong offshore winds can make takeoffs difficult.
The Mukie 1 scoring profile favors swell from SW (190° to 290°), a swell-height range of 0.9m to 3.7m, and a reference period of 14s. These are model inputs, not guaranteed breaking-wave heights or a promise that the surf will suit every ability.
The main season at Mukie 1 is Mar-Nov.
The spot profile lists KAT as a nearby airport. The estimated road transfer is 30 minutes.
