Best Surf Spots in Southeast Asia
Warm water, world-class reef breaks, and affordable travel across the islands of Southeast Asia.
30 spots featured
Southeast Asia is the world's premier tropical surf destination. Indonesia alone accounts for over 100 spots in our database, but the region extends to the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar — each with their own surf potential.
The Indian Ocean delivers consistent groundswell to Indonesia's southern coastline from April through October, creating the conditions for world-class reef breaks from Bali to the Mentawais. The Pacific Ocean feeds the Philippines' eastern seaboard from August through March. And in between, hidden corners of the region hold waves waiting to be surfed.
Water temperatures sit between 27-30°C year-round. The cost of living is among the lowest of any surf destination on Earth. And the sheer density of quality waves within easy reach of each other makes Southeast Asia the region where most traveling surfers spend the bulk of their time.
