Surfing Chile
Chile is one of surfing's last great frontiers — a 6,400-kilometer coastline pointing straight into the Roaring Forties, delivering some of the most consistent, powerful, and uncrowded waves on Earth. From the desert points of the north to the world-class lefts of Pichilemu and the empty reefs of the south, Chile is a left-hander's paradise.
Punta de Lobos in Pichilemu is the headliner — a long, powerful left that holds size and has hosted WSL Big Wave events. Up north, Arica and Iquique sit beneath the driest desert on the planet, scoring sand-bottom point breaks under blue skies almost year-round. The central and southern coasts pick up nuking Southern Ocean groundswell in the Chilean winter.
The trade-off is cold water (12-18°C) and Pacific power that rewards patience and respect. But the consistency is extraordinary, the locals are welcoming, and you can score world-class waves with single-digit lineups. Combine that with great wine, world-class seafood, and the Andes as a backdrop, and Chile is one of the most underrated surf trips on the planet.
