Lakey Pipe

East Sumbawa, Indonesia
🪸Sharp reef

Lakey Pipe is a fast, hollow left reef break sitting right next to the famous Lakey Peak in East Sumbawa. The wave is gnarlier and more intense than its neighbour, producing pitching tubes over shallow reef that make it a favourite among bodyboarders and tube-riding specialists. When solid SW swell hits, Lakey Pipe lights up with barrel after barrel, offering one of the heaviest rides in the region.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tide is best at Lakey Pipe?

The Lakey Pipe profile favors low to mid tide, ideally between 0.3m and 1.2m on the local tide chart. Compare this preference with the forecast tide and local conditions before choosing a session.

What wind direction is offshore at Lakey Pipe?

The Lakey Pipe profile uses wind from E (90°) as its preferred direction, with an offshore range of 60° to 120°. Wind speed matters too: light winds outside that range can still produce surfable conditions, while strong offshore winds can make takeoffs difficult.

The Lakey Pipe scoring profile favors swell from SW (200° to 230°), a swell-height range of 1.2m to 3m, and a reference period of 14s. These are model inputs, not guaranteed breaking-wave heights or a promise that the surf will suit every ability.

When is the best time of year to surf Lakey Pipe?
