Gracetown, Australia
🪨Rocks🦈Sharks

South Point is an accessible left-hand point break near Gracetown that offers forgiving walls for beginner to intermediate surfers. One of the few Margaret River breaks that still works in a southwest wind, making it a reliable option when the main breaks are blown out. The wave wraps around the rocky point and peels along the inside, offering long rides on clean days. Rarely crowded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tide is best at South Point?

The South Point profile does not specify a preferred tide stage. That does not mean tide has no effect: check local conditions alongside swell and wind.

What wind direction is offshore at South Point?

The South Point profile uses wind from ESE (110°) as its preferred direction, with an offshore range of 70° to 150°. Wind speed matters too: light winds outside that range can still produce surfable conditions, while strong offshore winds can make takeoffs difficult.

What swell size and direction work best at South Point?

The South Point scoring profile favors swell from WSW (200° to 280°), a swell-height range of 0.6m to 2.5m, and a reference period of 13s. These are model inputs, not guaranteed breaking-wave heights or a promise that the surf will suit every ability.

When is the best time of year to surf South Point?

The main season at South Point is Apr-Sep. A secondary window runs Jan, Feb, Mar, Oct, Nov, Dec. Best winter. One of the few spots that still works in a SW wind.

How do I get to South Point?
