Agios Nikolaos on Rhodes represents Aegean Sea surfing at its most improbable—a beach that might see rideable waves a handful of times per winter when rare northern storms generate local fetch. The Aegean is even less conducive to surf than other Mediterranean seas, but Greek surfers on Rhodes remain optimistic. When it works, the combination of ancient Greek island charm, crystal water, and complete novelty makes sessions memorable. This is surfing as geographical lottery.
